Black Americans not only have the most influential culture, we also have the buying power that drives the success and profits for so many industries. Sometimes it seems as if everybody else knows our value except us.
Mckinsey reports that Black Americans spend $30 BILLION a year on apparel and shoes and that number is expected to double by 2030.
The fact that there is not a single Billion dollar Black owned apparel brand, given how much we spend as a people, should be concerning to all of us.
We know reparations aren't coming. But we don't have to wait for anybody else. We can invest in ourselves and build and scale our own brands.
That will require us to VALUE us the way that we value brands from everybody else. Most of the brands that profit billions of dollars from our people, do not give back to our people in a meaningful way and do not care about our people. They only see us as dollar signs and revenue for them.
The exploitation of our culture to keep us in a consumer mindset instead of an ownership position continues to this day.
